Questions? Answers!

Do you have questions about TalesCollective? We have answers!

  • What's the big idea?

    • TalesCollective is all about collaborative writing. It's a great place for people who love to write, but sometimes get stuck; there's no such thing as writer's block here!

Anyone can start a new story, and once your story is added, it becomes available for everyone to read and add to. You can write as much of it yourself as you like, but we think it's more fun when different people's ideas get blended together, and you never quite know what will happen next!

  • How Do I register?

    • It's easy! Just click the register button at the top of the page and fill in your details. It's 100% free, and we will never share any of your information with a third party, so why not?

  • How Do I add a story?

    • Just click the "+" button at the top of the page to go the "Add a Story" page.

    • Title: Your title should be catchy and intriguing; put some thought in to it. It is important to spark people's interest with a good title; otherwise they'll pass right by your masterpiece and never give it the attention it deserves.

    • Description: Think of the synopsis usually printed on the back cover of a paperback novel. The description should get people interested in your story, and give them an idea of what you have in mind for it, but don't spell it out; leave it open-ended and enticing.

    • Rating: This is the rating that you would like your story to fit under. It's impossible to keep ratings 100% accurate when dealing with user-generated content, but the site's moderators will do their best to keep bad stuff out of General and PG rated stories.

    • First Line: This is where your story begins. Set the stage, introduce a character or two (or more) and set things in motion!

  • What is a "Line Limit"?

    • Every story has to end at some point; that is why we have line limits. Once your story reaches its line limit it is marked "complete" and people can no longer add to it. If you feel like your story is still incomplete when it reaches its line limit, you can always add to it and re-open the story for writing.

Alternatively, you can set the line limit to infinite (no line limit) and just end the story when you feel it is appropriate.

  • What is a "Line Time Limit"?

    • This is the maximum amount of time people will have to add a single line to your story.

We have line time limits because, when someone is adding to a story, everyone else is temporarily locked out, so they can't add a line until the first person is done. Otherwise, multiple people could add lines at the same time, and they would both be starting at the same point, so it wouldn't make any sense.

  • I found a bug! What should I do about it?
